Everyone Communicates, Few Connect

I read a book a few years ago by John Maxwell called "Everyone Communicates, Few Connect."
Everyone in the world communicates in some form or another, but not everyone actually connects on a deeper level with others.

It takes skill, patience, practice, and willingness to connect with people.
We've all had that teacher who just idly sat by, waiting for the next bell to ring and never left an impression on you. And hopefully you've also had a teacher who's impacted you because they CONNECTED with you. Maybe they spent extra time specifically with you, or they were simply more fun than other teachers. Maybe they were able to relate to where you are and not just helping you get a passing grade, and they chose to see you as someone who is valuable.

2. Impact with INTENT through training a.      Empower through training to be intentional.  //FLM Volunteer Vision

Each month YOU have the opportunity to not only communicate with kids who are curious about God, but you can connect with them and leave an impact that lasts a lifetime.
Connecting with a child in your area of ministry can be the difference between them being dragged out of the house week to week, and them dragging their parents out of bed to get to church on time each week.
In our experience with kids there have been three key points that have helped us to connect with them.
1.) Words of Affirmation - A kid will light up if you give them encouraging words when they first walk into a room. Tell them their shirt is cool, their hair is nice, or compliment a toy they brought with them. They feel connected closer to you when they know you like the small details in their life.
2.) Memory - Memorize something about a specific kid and strike up a conversation about it. If they love LEGO's and you don't know a thing about them, ask them questions then tell them about your favorite toys when you were growing up. If they love American Girl Dolls ask them to tell you their favorite character and her story.  They love when you remember their favorite things and feel valued when you want to talk with them about it.
3.) Physical Touch - Many kids don't always get a hug from their parents or their hand held when they cross the street. Appropriate physical touch is something kids strive for. A simple tap on the shoulder or a good high-five let's them know that your not just an adult, you can relate to their world. Get down on their level, look them in the eyes and ask for their best high-five this Sunday. I bet they smile right before they rear back and try to knock your hand into the sun.

Do a combination of those three things or try all of them the next time you serve. You'll notice that you've started to connect with a kid, leaving a lasting impression for years.

*Side Note: As we are in the winter season, we are praying for you & your families health! If you are feeling under the weather and showing symptoms please make sure to let us know prior to your Scheduled Sunday so we can find you a replacement. Thanks for helping us to keep our classrooms clean and safe for everyone!

Thanks for being intentional every Sunday you serve!

Do Good Things

1Peter 4:10, 11a

"God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to Him forever and ever! Amen."

1. Experience ADVENTURE In serving
a.      Experience fulfillment & growth through serving. ::Find Purpose :: Legacy //FLM Volunteer Vision

You have God given talents that God planned for you to flourish in! In this busy holiday season lean on God for the "strength and energy that God supplies" because you are not in FLM by mistake.
You are doing good things.
You are leaving a legacy for the next generation.
You are serving a purpose.

If you're not feeling a sense of adventure, fulfillment or growth in your volunteer role take a moment and ask God what talents has he given you and how can you better use them in FLM!

Remember you're a piece of art that's never quite finished. We love to see you grow as a leader by giving you new roles and responsibilities. We are so glad God brought you to FLM to make a difference in the  families at Coastline.

"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."
Philippians 1:6

SIDE NOTE: *The Winter Blockbuster is out so please review and respond.

Have a great week,

Hello FLM Team!
This Sunday begins the Winter Blockbuster! If you haven't read over our new "Blockbuster" volunteering info I have attached the notes so we're on the same page.
The trial for November went great and we are ecstatic to begin the Winter Blockbuster with you all as our team grows.

The attached rotation is the schedule for the Winter Blockbuster months: December, January, and February. Sundays are listed as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th so this same rotation can be applied to each of the winter months.

Please check ahead on your calendar and commit to these dates to build consistency with parents, kids, and our team!
Please respond via e-mail, FB message, or text to confirm your Winter Blockbuster dates (for Dec, Jan, Feb) & please be in prayer for our little family as we are nearing our due date for our baby girl! (Feb. 9th)

Lastly, read over, print out the Blockbuster handout, circle your Sundays & write in the service time & put on your fridge to coordinate with the whole family! *There will be copies of this handout in each classroom for you if you are not able to print at home.

RTT :: Real Time Training::

So we need new volunteers but how do we train them?

We started a new 10 step plan to becoming a new volunteer!
One of the steps concerns their first Sunday in a service. That volunteer will participate in RTT (Real Time Training) We will have a great descriptive list to go over with them in class the first time they serve so they can be trained in real time as they learn from YOU the volunteer, your example, and a list of details to fast tract them to being awesome like you
Keep an eye out for new volunteers who are learning in RTT their first Sunday and show them your support!

Impact with ::INTENT:: through training

Here's a training reminder for our veteran volunteers!
Experience Sunday with the kids.
Engage in the activities and the game. Listen intently to the stories. Let loose in the worship time by learning the songs and motions. Ask a child something about them selves during free time. As the kids watch you experience the service they will experience God through you!
Make an intentional impact this week!

::Early Childhood:
Don't forget, if you call a parent back text the number and class name to the media person. After the parent arrives text the media person again letting them know the parent came.

We love you!

90 Second Ask November

Happy November!
We are so excited to begin our Vision Tuesday Posts to the team!

Experience ::ADVENTURE:: in serving //recruiting others

Leading others to experience the adventure is an important part of serving! We are asking you for the month of Nov. to participate in at least ONE "90 Second Ask"

What is the 90 Second Ask?
·      A new way for volunteers to invite others to serve at FLM.

Why are we asking you to participate in the 90 Second Ask?
·      Every Volunteer/ Leader is an inviter.
·      As Coastline attendance increases we need more volunteers to fill roles at each service.
·      People like to be invited to join a ministry by a friend or acquaintance.
·      Coastline has a role that fits all volunteers from teaching, assisting, loving on babies, leading games, connecting with parents, etc.

Who Can You Ask?
  • Parents of kids in your room.
  • The person who sits next to you in the service.
  • A person in your small group or circle of friends.

How do I perform the 90 Second Ask?
  •  First - Your personal passion – This will take 30 seconds.
    • Let the person know your passion for FLM.
  • Second - Personal Affirmation – This will take 30 seconds.
    • Let the person know what gifts you see in them and how they could use those gifts.
    • If you are speaking with a parent complement them on bringing their child to Coastline.
    • If you are speaking with someone who you sit by in the service ask them to pray and fill out a connect card.
  • Third – Invite them to explore a specific area – This will take 30 seconds.
    • If you know them suggest a role they may want to consider.
    • Encourage them to fill out a connect card on the “Plug Me In” side to get more info
Follow-up with the person at the next opportunity to find out if the person has been connected to a serving role or if there are in questions they have.

We are starting a great new volunteer 10 step program which will help people sign up easily, interview with me or Ben, find a role that fits, and be trained in "Real Time" on Sundays while in a service.

Thanks for joining us in the "90 Second Ask" Task for November!
